Do you believe privacy is just a myth in WhatsApp?

Hello Reader,

Have you received an in-app notification from WhatsApp? If yes then you need to read this blog.

Agreeing Whatsapp Terms of Service (ToS) Without reading, knowing, and understanding then your privacy is in trouble. It is like entering into Padmavyuha without knowing where to return.

All Whatsapp users must agree to the new terms by 8 February 2021, or else lose access to their chats and contacts.

A lot of clarification is needed on the new privacy policy but WhatsApp initially refused to comment on the update but a spokesperson told The Independent that privacy policy updates were “common in the industry” and that users had “ample time” to review them.

That means you have only binary options!!!! In order to continue using Whatsapp by agreeing with the new policy otherwise just delete your account and exit from Whatsapp.

What do new Terms of Service say:

“We collect information about your activity on our services, like service-related, diagnostic and performance information”.

Now, your privacy is impacted by collecting and processing the above personal data.

Small example:

Shyam using both Whatsapp and Facebook with different names due to his privacy. But, he was given the same phone number for both accounts. After agreeing to the new ToS FB learns who is Shaym, what are his call logs, his status, presence of groups, payment transactions or business features, profile photo last used service, online/offline, Accurate location data. Now, where is Shyam privacy?

Whatsapp chats are no longer encrypted?

Technically they remain encrypted end-to-end. Because it is in their DNA. But we know programming languages do not have DNA. Who is responsible if data misused or hacked while data sharing happening between Whatsapp and Facebook.

Few days before Facebook said it has invested Rs 43,574 crore in Jio Platforms for a 9.99% stake. That means if the Jio platform pushes Whatsapp-based retail services then we need to think a lot.

Facebook future plans :

Facebook Inc has been working to integrate services across Facebook (the social media platform), FB Messenger, Instagram (FB bought it in 2012), and Whatsapp. Out of all these services, Whatsapp is directly connected to users and processing more data.

Soon Whatsapp will add payment options between B2B (Business to Business), B2C (Business to Consumer), and User to User (U2U).

Here is the main game will start. As we all know competition between online payment system providers and e-commerce these days. Let see who will win.

“But we need to win by protecting our privacy first”

Best Alternative platform: Signal

Signal Messenger LLP was founded by Moxie Marlinespike and Brian Acton in 2018. Signal app country origin is from California, USA.

Privacy comparison between top messenging apps:

Signal takes just contact info to continue services.

Features of comparison:

Collect more user-specific data, send accurate ads, and make more money. In this digital era lot of service providers are following this principle. So, It is our responsibility to protect our privacy. The biggest myth, Privacy these days.

What do you think? Have you agreed on ToS?
